1. The Client Brief: Equipping a Bustling Market Print Shop

When Empower Prints, located in the historic Cardiff Central Market, needed to upgrade their retail and workspace furniture, they approached Arbor Garden Solutions with a specific vision. They provided custom drawings for a tiered retail display table and required highly durable workbenches capable of supporting heavy loads for their daily print operations.

The project presented a few unique requirements:

• Custom Retail Display: A tiered wooden table to showcase products, initially conceptualized in OSB but requiring a highly durable, professional finish.

• Heavy-Duty Workstations: Two mobile workbenches capable of supporting loads of 65kg and 87kg respectively, but with custom-reduced depths to perfectly fit their unit space.

• Restricted Access Delivery: The shop is located in a pedestrian-only area where vehicle access is strictly limited to between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM.

2. Design & Material Selection: Prioritizing Longevity and Aesthetics

Our technical team worked closely with the client to refine their initial designs and ensure the final products would stand the test of time in a high-traffic retail environment.

The Eucalyptus Display Table

• Material Upgrade: While the client initially requested OSB for an industrial look, we advised that OSB edges can fray over time and eventually produce splinters. To ensure safety and longevity, the client opted to upgrade to premium Eucalyptus sheet material.

• Structural Support: We engineered the table using solid timber bracing rather than sheet-based bracing to provide the most robust structural support possible.

• Custom Finish: The display table was supplied fully sanded and smooth, ready for the client to apply their own custom varnish and protective treatments on-site.

The Custom MDF Workbenches

• Tailored Dimensions: Standard workbench depths were too large for the shop unit, so we manufactured bespoke reduced-depth versions at 600mm and 650mm deep.

• Mobile & Heavy-Duty: Both workbenches were fitted with double extra shelving and heavy-duty wheels to allow the Empower Prints team to easily reconfigure their workspace while safely supporting heavy equipment.

3. On-Site Installation: Navigating Cardiff Central Market

Delivering to a busy city-center market requires meticulous planning. Because Empower Prints is situated in a pedestrian-only zone, our logistics team had to schedule the arrival precisely within the 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM access window.

To ensure everything went smoothly:

• We provided a dedicated assembly service for the bespoke display table, erecting it rapidly within the morning access window.

• The two bespoke MDF workbenches were delivered as flat-pack kits (as requested by the client without assembly service) alongside the display unit.

The result is a highly functional, beautifully crafted retail space tailored exactly to the operational needs and aesthetic vision of Empower Prints.
