It’s always a good idea to look for ways we can use less plastic in and around the house. Plastic is a huge part of the problem when it comes to pollution, which we all know is harming the environment.
Switch to Wood Labels
Labelling plants and flowers can be incredibly useful when you’re out and about in the garden. Plastic labels can easily be replaced with wooden markers, which are available from plenty of garden centres or craft shops. They’re biodegradable, but not too quickly, so you can get lots of use out of them over the next few years.
Start From Seeds
Avoid buying grown plants from garden centres altogether and start your plants from seed. Most seeds come in paper packs that can also be recycled or even thrown into your compost heap. You can begin to germinate the seeds in carton trays and plant them in the ground when they’re ready! This is one of the best ways to use less plastic in the garden.
Use Biodegradable Pots
If you must use pots, then ensure they are at least biodegradable or reusable! You’ll even find it’s a lot easier to get your gardening done when you can simply leave a pot to decompose in the soil. Peat pots are ideal, they last a few months and can be planted directly into your garden. They’ll break down quickly without adding any harmful additives to your soil too.
